ISAUnited Advances the Defensible 10 Standards into Public Peer Review

A Defining Moment for Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is entering a defining moment. For too long, our industry has relied almost entirely on government driven standards, regulatory frameworks, and compliance oriented guidance to shape technical security practice. While those frameworks have played an important role, they were never enough to establish cybersecurity as a true engineering discipline owned and advanced by the industry itself. The Defensible 10 Standards represent a major shift in that direction. This is more than another publication or draft framework. It is part of a larger movement to give cybersecurity architecture and engineering its own standards foundation, developed with technical discipline, structured review, and a long term vision for growth through both Parent Standards and future Sub Standards. This is a game changer for the cybersecurity profession because it gives practitioners, architects, engineers, and technical leaders the opportunity to help shape a standards model built by the profession, for the profession, and strengthened through structured peer review.

Establishing the Technical Standards Layer for Cybersecurity

Each Defensible 10 Parent Standard was created to provide defensible, measurable, and implementation oriented technical guidance across critical security domains. Together, these standards help move cybersecurity beyond reactive practice and toward a more disciplined engineering model, giving the profession a stronger technical structure of its own.

From Draft Development to Peer Review

As these standards continue to mature, ISAUnited is moving them through a disciplined lifecycle from creation, to draft development, to peer review, to final draft preparation, and then toward formal publication and broader visibility with recognized standards bodies and standards channels, including ANSI and other international pathways such as ISO.

This review stage matters. It strengthens quality, improves clarity, refines technical language, and supports the overall defensibility of the standards before they move further into publication maturity.

Expanding International Visibility

As ISAUnited moves forward with member peer review of the Defensible 10 Standards, we are also expanding the visibility of this work within the international standards community. Our objective is not simply to publish technical guidance, but to contribute to a broader ecosystem that supports international trade, conformity assessment, technical regulation, and cross border standards engagement.

For ISAUnited, this aligns directly with our role as a growing standards development organization focused on cybersecurity architecture and engineering, and with our long term goal of making defensible, engineering driven cybersecurity standards available to a wider global audience.

Read the Book and Explore the Platform

We encourage the cybersecurity community to visit Defensible10.org, the official home of the Defensible 10 Standards. The site gives visitors the opportunity to learn more about the standards, their purpose, and the direction of the program.

The Defensible 10 Standards book is also available as a free download. We strongly encourage practitioners, reviewers, students, and technical leaders to download and read the book so they can better understand the structure, philosophy, and engineering intent behind the Parent Standards.

The Peer Review Guide Is Now Available

ISAUnited has also prepared a formal Standards Peer Review Guide for the Defensible 10 Parent Standards. The guide is now available for approved reviewers and is being used to support structured public review and recommended modifications. This review effort is focused on the Parent Standards only. Future Sub Standards will follow through their own submission and development process.

Thank You to Those Already Registered

We sincerely thank those who have already registered and stepped forward to contribute. Your participation strengthens not only the standards themselves, but also the long term maturity of cybersecurity architecture and engineering as a professional discipline.

Registration Is Open

For those who have not yet registered, we invite you to do so. Approved reviewers will be added to the Defensible 10 Standards GitHub review repository so they can access the Standards Peer Review Guide and participate in the review process. To register, please visit the ISAUnited Defensible 10 Standards registration page at https://www.isaunited.org/isaunited-defensible10-standards-registration.

Be Part of This Historic Change

This is an important stage for ISAUnited and for everyone who believes cybersecurity should be practiced with greater technical structure, measurable outcomes, and engineering discipline. We welcome serious review, thoughtful recommendations, and continued professional participation as the Defensible 10 Standards move forward into this next chapter.

Be part of this historic change. Read the book. Review the standards. Contribute your technical judgment. Help shape the future of cybersecurity architecture and engineering.
