About Us

The Institute of Security Architecture United (ISAUnited) is a U.S.-based, cybersecurity-focused Standards Development Organization. We develop, govern, publish, and maintain the Defensible 10 Standards for cybersecurity architecture and engineering.

ISAUnited brings together cybersecurity practitioners, architects, engineers, researchers, and organizational leaders to develop vendor-neutral standards that address real implementation needs. Although based in the United States, our standards and professional community support organizations and cyber teams worldwide.

What We Do

We develop practical cybersecurity standards that help organizations move from high-level security requirements to structured implementation, verification, validation, and evidence.

Through the Defensible 10 Standards, ISAUnited:

  • Establishes requirements and technical specifications across ten cybersecurity domains.

  • Develops Associate Standards for focused implementation needs.

  • Provides Evidence Workbooks that organize evidence for verification, validation, and implementation.

  • Conducts research that informs current and future standards development.

  • Convenes practitioners and subject-matter experts through peer review and public contribution.

  • Supports cyber teams through standards resources, professional development, and shared knowledge.

Our work advances cybersecurity as a disciplined architecture and engineering practice—helping organizations build more defensible systems and demonstrate that they have implemented security responsibly.

Our Philosophy

Cybersecurity should be designed into systems from the beginning—not added after risks emerge. We believe clear, vendor-neutral standards help organizations plan, build, verify, and maintain secure and resilient technologies. Through disciplined architecture, engineering, and evidence-based practices, cyber teams can reduce uncertainty, strengthen trust, and better protect the people, services, and infrastructure that rely on technology.

Our Purpose

ISAUnited advances cybersecurity architecture and engineering through standards developed with and for the cybersecurity community. We bring together practitioners, subject-matter experts, researchers, and industry leaders to turn shared knowledge and real-world experience into practical standards that strengthen professional practice and help organizations become more defensible.

Our Mission

To develop, govern, publish, and maintain vendor-neutral cybersecurity standards that help organizations implement security by design, strengthen cyber teams, and demonstrate that security has been engineered responsibly.

Our Vision

  • Establish a trusted standards foundation for cybersecurity architecture and engineering.

  • Unite practitioners, experts, and industry around shared cybersecurity practices.

  • Translate cybersecurity requirements into implementable and verifiable technical work.

  • Strengthen critical systems and infrastructure through security by design.

  • Advance education and professional development through standards-based knowledge.

  • Build a future in which organizations can provide defensible evidence that they have implemented security responsibly.
